Rutherford Farms

History of Rutherford Farms

The Rutherford family has farmed in the Rural Municipality of Rosser for almost 100 years. Alex Rutherford began farming with his brothers on land southeast of the community of Rosser.  In 1930, he purchased the present farm just south of the village of Grosse Isle, Manitoba, and began farming with his son, Jack.

Throughout the years, they moved from horses, plows and binders to tractors and combines and finally to the modern machinery of today. In 1950, Jack began growing pedigreed seed with the Canadian Seed Growers; an activity still carried on by his son Rick today.

The farm has grown from the initial 320 acres to more than 3500.  A seed cleaning plant was started in the sixties and the business has expanded to the present automated system today.
